This collection of useful parts and objects is yours to use. All we ask is that you register derivative projects with makeSEA to help track their evolution (privately or publically). You can also use makeSEA to share or sell your designs and mashup your work with the work of others. Keep track, and ensure that everyone that contributes receives attribution. Protected files are makeSEA assets that can be distributed to other systems and link back to the original files at makeSEA. You can distribute these reference assets freely without concern for access restrictions. makeSEA still requires users to login to access the unprotected original files. Share! Print! makeSEA Analysis - Brushless Motor - Selecting the Magnets

Brushless Motor: Selecting the Magnets (see also,  Brushless Motor ) The force of the magnets is categorised in grades: N35, N45, N50, N52 are very common, whereas N52 is the strongest. I have the impression, that suppliers are not very accurate with their specifications. Absolute values are difficult to measure (it also depends on magnet size), so you can’t check, if...

makeSEA Knowledge - Printing Magnetic PLA from Proto Pasta with Replicator 2X

Printing Magnetic PLA from Proto Pasta with Replicator 2X There are nice new 3D-printable materials. How cool would it be to design objects which contain materials with different properties, different than just colors. So I ordered a Replicator 2+ and some spools of filament from Proto Pasta. When it was finally delivered, I couldn't wait to try the magnetic PLA (actually it...

makeSEA Propellers

Propellers (see also,  Brushless Motor v2  re generator) Idea / Motivation Design a parametric propeller, useful as a fan or for an RC-plane. Basically I wanted to know, if it is possible at all to create a 3d-printable propeller, which works with a satisfying efficiency. When successful it would be very useful, because pitch and diameter were freely adjustable, and...

makeSEA Solar Water Distiller

makeSEA Solar Water Distiller Idea / Requirements Design a 3d-printable system which can clean polluted water. There are systems, where the water is initially cleaned with some kind of natural filter consisting of pebbbles, sand, and charcoal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosand_filter). In DIY-projects people use PET-bottles as a container/funnel containing these...

makeSEA Water Turbine

makeSEA Water Turbine Idea / Requirements Build a 3d-printable water turbine re-using the brushless motor / generator design. In contrast to the wind turbine this system should produce a considerable amount of energy - not just powering a few LEDs. Water is used from a little brook, or (for testing) just tap water. I.e. water with a little bit of pressure, and relative low flow...

makeSEA Knowledge - Printing Flex Profill Filament

Printing “Flex ProFill” Filament Introduction/Summary There are many different types of filament-materials available for 3d-printing, and the variety is extended continuously. In particular I wanted to find a material, which is flexible and strong. I’ve ordered a bunch of sample filaments from various online stores. The effort to get familiar with a new material is very high, and...

makeSEA Analysis - Magnetic PLA - Electromagnetic Tests

Magnetic PLA -Electromagnetic Tests Magnetic PLA from Proto Pasta must be useful as core of an electromagnet. Without knowing its physical properties, I just built a brushless motor using this material, and it worked! But there is still the question: How much does it really help? In order to find the final answer, I should assemble two identical motors, where only the material of...

makeSEA Analysis - Printing Conductive PLA from Proto Pasta with Replicator 2x - Resistance

Printing Conductive PLA from ProtoPasta with Replicator 2X - Resisitance After suceeding with printing magnetic PLA, it wasn't a big problem to print conductive PLA. This material behaves very similar as normal PLA. With additional cooling and lubrication, it is possible to print PLA with 205°C nozzle and 60°C build platform on Capton. The material seems a bit more brittle compared...

Collection of Useful Objects Box Hex    File Name: "Box Hex wXXX lXXX hXXX.stl" w - width l - length h - height Box prints in one piece, has a folding hinge and a snap lock. For printing, the hinge needs to lay flat on the print bed. The hinge is 0.2mm thick - i.e. it’s recommended to use 0.1mm layer resolution in order to have 2 solid layers...

makeSEA 3D Printed Brushless Motor v0 (prototype)

makeSEA Brushless Motor v0 (Prototype) (see also,  Brushless Motor v.2 ) In the beginning was the word - Chris asked me to buy conductive and magnetic PLA from Proto Pasta, and I should create something useful with it. The initial experience with this materials was sobering, instead of experimenting with special material properties, I had to fight to get it through...

makeSEA Analysis - Printing Conductive PLA from Proto Pasta with Replicator 2x - Isolation

Printing Conductive PLA from Proto Pasta with Replicator 2x - isolation Now I know, how the conductive PLA from Proto Pasta can transport current. Apart from powering devices which consume more than 20-50 mA, this material could be very useful for low-power circuits. Consuming a lot of energy isn't a good idea anyway, because there are more and more electronic devices on earth, which in...

windpowerWriter

Windpower Writer

windpowerWriter

The goal of this project was to 3D-print a fully functional wind turbine at small scale, using commonly available printing technologies and materials. By combining the 3d printed makeSEA motor and with the exploration of other technologies, Christoph has created a piece that is so much more than just a wind turbine. The project should be inspiring and motivating for many people.

What time is it?!? - Time for the Oct O'Clock!

Torsion Hinge

Torsion Hinge

Torsion Hinge

In contrast to the flexing hinge, this hinge has thin parts, which are stressed only by torsion. The torsion bands are long enough to avaid plastic deformation.

This type of hinge should last longer than the flexible hinge. However this hinge can not carry as much load as the flexing hinge, even printed with PLA.
